Working for us

Ackworth School, a co-educational boarding and day school, was founded in 1779 by the Society of Friends (Quakers). It maintains its ethos and traditions and is still governed by the society although only a small minority of pupils and staff are from the Quaker tradition. The school is academically non-selective and provides an excellent range of facilities and extra-curricular opportunities. The school is a member of both HMC and SHMIS.

There are currently over 350 pupils in the senior school (aged 11-18) and 130 pupils in Coram House, the junior school (aged 3-11). Over 100 of the senior school are boarders. The school also has an international studies centre providing academic English language programmes. The school is set in beautiful grounds in the village of Ackworth. There are excellent transport links to nearby cities such as York, Leeds, Sheffield, Harrogate and Wakefield. The dales and the peak district are both just over one hour away.

Head of Learning Support - Applications Close Thursday 24th June

Ackworth School is seeking to appoint a Head of Learning Support. Due to increased numbers of pupils who have special educational needs, and an expanding Autism Resource, we are looking to bring all of these elements together in order to work more collaboratively.

We are looking for someone who has an in-depth knowledge of SEN; a real expert in their field. You may have worked in a large school, and be an experienced SENCO, delivering a strategy for learning support that evidences real progress and supports those pupils who are hard to engage with. Alternatively, you may have real specialist experience in a smaller resource working with pupils with ASD who receive tailored support at all times.
