Ackworth School

Football Academy

Football Academy

Offering an elite football development programme for boys, the academy is run by Jamie Fullarton, an ex English Premier League footballer, and qualified UEFA Pro licence coach.

The academy has three teams: U19s, U16s and U13s.

In addition to the Academy’s home being at a brand-new 3G pitch, the facilities at Ackworth are outstanding; boasting five full-sized pitches, an all-weather pitch and an indoor training area. Students enrolled on the football academy can also take full advantage of the heated indoor swimming pool and newly purpose-built fitness suite.

Places in the Academy will be limited and preference given to students already enrolled at Ackworth School. Football Academy scholarships are available for those who meet the required standard.

Further Information

Entry to the Ackworth School Football Academy will be through the School’s normal admissions process.

At 6th Form level, pupils must take three A-Level subjects, or one A-Level subject plus Cambridge Technicals Sport, and maintain a high level of academic performance in addition to involvement in the School’s co-curricular programme.

Football Academy pupils in years below the 6th Form must take the required academic course appropriate to their age and ability, and involve themselves in the School’s co-curricular programme.

The programme looks to marry educational excellence with elite football coaching, the underlying ethos being that if you develop the person, you develop the player. At the end of each term, students are reviewed on both their sporting and academic performance, this helps to tailor their Individual Development Programme (IDP) to suit specific needs.

The programme is designed to be rigorous, with daily coaching sessions or matches, The idea being to prepare students for the physical nature of the game, helping them to compete and succeed at a much higher level. Students will have a minimum of 20 hours of football contact time per week, significantly more than other professional academies. In order to facilitate their mental and physical growth, students enrolled in the academy have full use of our sporting facilities, including the newly purpose-built fitness suite.

There are currently over 600,000 people working in the football industry, making football one of the top three employment sectors in the UK. Ackworth School recognises there are many varied careers within the industry, not just playing football, therefore we will as part of the programme, run two workshops per term for the students to experience other areas within football including sports science, recruitment, analysis, coaching, refereeing and even media.
