Coram House Head

Coram House offers strong pastoral care which begins in our Nursery setting and continues into Pre-Prep, Prep and into Senior School.  We work on our transitions, creating a smooth journey through the curriculum and beyond.  Our Ackworth School ethos, non sibi sed omnibus is commented on by visitors, parents, staff and children.

At Coram House we believe that academic excellence is important, but of equal importance are the values that go with it.  We encourage our pupils to explore their identity and strengths, and to discover skills which will help them to transform their own individual talents into accomplishments – accomplishments which will make them valued and respected and help them to fulfil their potential as they move forward in their educational journey into Senior School and into the wider world.

Our vision is to create a school where children naturally have an acceptance of others, value each other and themselves, but above all enjoy coming to school. Every child deserves the very best that we can offer them and every child is valued for who they are. Through individual feedback on their learning, children are encouraged to think and reflect critically about what they need to do to improve and also offer support to peers on their learning.  This gives them the foundation for life skills that they need to flourish and thrive.

Please come and visit us and experience the Coram ethos for yourself.

JUNIOR SCHOOL

At Coram House we are passionate about extending our children’s learning opportunities outside the classroom. It is part of our educational philosophy and one which is carried from Nursery through to the end of Year 6. Using our extensive and beautiful grounds, children are encouraged to take risks, discover, build and play in our Forest School setting.

Sustainability is a key message which we promote at Coram House.

The Junior School pursues high academic and pastoral standards for children placing importance on individualised teaching and learning. We foster enthusiasm and initiative in children and believe it is important to encourage pupils to nurture their own talents and personalities. It is through this that self-esteem, resilience and confidence are built.  We nurture happy, inquisitive children who want to care about the environment and find out about the world around them.

The curriculum gives great breadth and supports all learners.  Children are taught in mixed ability classes and are able to recognise and understand their targets and areas for development.

Communication with parents is vital and half-termly forums, weekly newsletters and a Parent Portal, ensure that parents are an integral part of the education of their children and the School.  Forest School sessions are exciting to our children; they are encouraged to face challenges and take risks in a “high challenge, low threat” environment.
