Namibia Expedition 2009

Our adventure started back in Fifth Year, the first interest, the impossibility of raising over £3,000 each, the first feelings of excitement. After months and months of letters, bag packs, school fundraisers, marathons, saving, part-time jobs and generous friends and family, we were on a plane to Namibia.

We were met by Doo Doo, our driver, who took us to buy enough food for the next ten days and also to buy a cement mixer, paint brushes, varnish, rags, tiles, blackboards, paint, hammers, screwdrivers and a
lot more.

Working and living at the Waterberg school was the most important part of the expedition. We were asked so many questions like, 'How many cows do you own in England'? and 'Is it very green'? We had a three-hour welcome with singing, dancing and speeches and an even longer goodbye with a barbecue, which tasted so nice after porridge, bread and pasta.

Next, a four day trek in the wild, evading bands of baboons and being silent for up to an hour to avoid black rhino. At the safari park our driver, Taz, who had only seen one leopard in seven years, couldn't believe it when we saw three in an hour!

There is so much more that we did, and there are so many more stories we can tell. Thank you to everyone who supported us.
