'Small opportunities are often the beginning of great enterprises'.
Demosthenes Greek orator & politician in Athens (384 BC - 322 BC)
My sincere congratulations to the Ackworth students who took part recently in the Regional Final of the Young Consumer of the Year competition. Our team competed against schools from Bradford, Leeds, Kirklees and Calderdale and, following a nail-biting final round, secured first place. They will now represent West Yorkshire at the National Finals in Edinburgh later this year.
Much takes place at Ackworth which means that life can never be described as dull. Every day presents new challenges and opportunities which need to be grasped in order to move forward. Since arriving at Ackworth, I have had a wonderful opportunity to look beyond what we already have and understand and appreciate what our present and future generations of children need. The list is extensive, but possibly the most important challenge is to act creatively to build on what is good and turn it into excellence. This may seem a tall order but it is certainly not impossible, especially at Ackworth. As Advices and Queries points out, we must all live adventurously. The future at Ackworth is very exciting and bright. We are looking at developing our sports facilities in the very near future and I am delighted to have such a supportive parent body to ensure our shared vision will come to fruition.
