Theatre Trip to London

On Friday 1st February, a number of 5th and 6th Formers took a cultural trip to London.
After dinner at Pizza Express, the Friday evening was spent watching a production of ‘The Lord of the Rings’ at the Drury Lane Theatre. Any negative preconceptions we had about how successful a musical based on the fantasy trilogy would be were quickly blown away by the incredible spectacle.

Elves showcased some wonderful aerial acrobatics, hobbits led an all-singing, all-dancing number and to our great horror and delight Orcs stormed the audience, terrorising those who were sitting in end-of-row seats.

The Saturday started with an informative backstage tour of the Drury Lane Theatre (and its ghosts), a glimpse of the oldest part of the building, and a closer look at the set.
Once we had eaten in Covent Garden, we set off to watch a production of ‘The History Boys’ – a play about the ups and downs of applying to university, to which I’m sure many members of the 6th Form can relate! It was certainly a humorous and touching end to an amazing couple of days. ‘Thank yous’ are in order to all of the staff involved!
