After a long and rough crossing we were glad to be finally back on dry land docking in Amsterdam, at approximately 9:30 international time. We made it to our hotel in Rotterdam just in time to enjoy a buffet lunch.
We were soon on our way and eagerly anticipated our afternoon training sessions. The boys were dropped off in style outside the impressive 56,500 seated stadium of Feyenoord FC and made their way to the training facilities. The girls continued on their way to HC Rotterdam, where they met two international players, who would be their coaches for the week. The boys were introduced to Mike Obiku, an ex professional, international footballer of Feyenoord FC and Nigeria. Both boys and girls enjoyed developing their sport specific skills, and relished the opportunity to meet inspirational role models.
In the evening we were introduced to the Dutch sport ‘Korfball’. Following a very brief summary of the rules and an inspirational team talk from Mr Roberts, we were ready. The pupils adapted quickly to the fast paced netball/ lacrosse style sport and showed excellent enthusiasm throughout both sixty minute fixtures. Despite matching our Dutch opponent’s endeavour both the under fifteen and thirteen teams were eventually defeated by the more experienced host team. During and after the fixture we were made to feel extremely welcome by CKV N.io, who provided us with a rendition of ‘Happy Birthday’ in Dutch for Eleanor and Will. This was followed by refreshments including tea and delicious ‘Stroop’ waffles. The pupils enjoyed our host’s company so much we have invited them to join us on Monday for training.

Waking up full of energy and enthusiasm following an undisturbed night’s sleep, we prepared ourselves for a day out at Duinerell Theme and Water park. The morning was spent exploring the theme park rides, and the afternoon on the exhilarating water slides of the Tiki bad water park. Lucy Allen said her favourite part of the day was the afternoon we spent on the water slides, specifically the ride the ‘Moon slide.’ Amelie Harper particularly enjoyed the Falcon ride in the theme park.
