At Ackworth there is a very strong tradition of participation in the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme.
The aim of the Scheme is to inspire, guide and support young people in their self-development and to recognise their achievements.
There are 3 levels of the Award to work towards – Bronze, Silver and Gold.
Students as Ackworth start working towards the Bronze award at the start of 4th form with the aim of completing it by October half term of the 5th form. They can then continue onto the Silver award during 5th form. The Gold award is then undertaken in the 6th form. Students can choose to start the award at any level. The award is becoming increasingly popular with International Centre students who choose to start the award at the Silver level.
At each level young people have to complete 4 sections – Volunteering, Skill, Physical and Expedition (plus a 5-day Residential section at Gold level). At Ackworth we encourage pupils to work towards new goals, as well as to use the skills and hobbies they already have to help them achieve their Duke of Edinburgh’s Award.
