They all are (or were) very successful, and dyslexic!

Dyslexia is a learning difference which can affect a person's ability to manipulate text effectively. They may have reading, writing or spelling difficulties or may process information more slowly than expected.

Children with Dyslexia may:

  • Read hesitantly
  • Misread, making understanding difficult
  • Have difficulty with sequences eg. dates
  • Have poor organisation or time management
  • Have difficulty organising thoughts clearly
  • Have erratic spelling

HOWEVER, they are often:

  • Innovative thinkers
  • Excellent troubleshooters
  • Intuitive problem solvers
  • Creative in many ways
  • Lateral thinkers

At Ackworth we are keen to encourage dyslexic pupils to achieve highly and to organise teaching and learning so that all pupils make the best progress possible.

Staff training is ongoing to ensure teaching is as 'dyslexia friendly' as possible and our specialist teacher is always available to support all pupils, staff and parents.

If necessary, pupils can receive 1:1 or small group tuition from our qualified teacher, who will deliver a programme tailored to their needs.

Learning support is a partnership between teachers and parents.  We welcome any opportunity to improve the learning experience we offer for your child whatever their learning needs.  (Please contact Carol Francis if you have any issues you would like to discuss).
