Foundation Course

For students with limited English Language, level to be assessed on entry


·         Strong focus on written and spoken English

·         Regular testing of reading, speaking and writing skills

·         Intakes in September, January and April

·         Intensive English as a second language programme (ESL)

·         Well-qualified ESL Teachers

·         Small teaching groups

·         Half-termly academic reports

·         Regular testing and monitoring of progress

·         A range of exams from Cambridge ESOL qualifications (KET and PET) to Cambridge IELTS.

·         Introduction to academic subjects offered at A-Level

·         PE and Games lessons

·         Lessons in British culture

·         Boarding Houses staffed by Ackworth School teachers

·         Compulsory evening study supervised by teachers

·         Involvement in our wide range of after-school Clubs and Societies

·         Weekend activities, sports and excursions to assist your use of English in informal settings

·         Assistance with travel arrangements to and from Manchester airport.

 

Higher Course

·         Designed to prepare international students for A-Level study

·         A standard of 4.5 on the IELTS scale is required

·         Strong focus on written and spoken English

·         September intake

·         Learn Research skills, Essay Writing skills, Written and Oral Comprehension skills, Public Speaking and Presentation skills

·         Includes ESL support

·         Well-qualified ESL Teachers

·         Small teaching groups

·         Half-termly academic reports

·         IGCSE subjects; Maths, English, Business Studies, History Design Technology and Food and Nutrition

·         Introduction to GCSE Sciences

·         PE and Games lessons

·         Native language GCSE

·         Aim is to achieve IELTS Level 5 or higher in order to succeed at A Level

·         Ongoing ESL support throughout A-Levels

·         1 to 1 University advisor

·         Involvement in our after-school Clubs and Societies programme which supports the academic curriculum

·         Weekend activities, sports and excursions to assist your use of English in informal settings
